Tharan
Government: Monarchy
Rulers: Dimitri & Rinna Roseblade
Location: Western Coastline of Etouria

The city of Tharan was the first organized settlement on Etouria, designed and built by humans, fortified with walls built by the Dwarves of Durvan. For nearly one thousand years, Tharan ruled as the largest, most advanced, most well fortified, most densely populated city in the world. The holy Knights of Tharan, those devoted to Lord Everan as well as the Roseblade Monarchy, managed to keep the peace until the corruption of the line of Kings and the disappearance of the gods created a weakness that not even they could overcome. In 985, when the Orcs of Belneiron poured from their burning city and set siege to Tharan, the city began to crumble. The Tharanian King refused all outside help, insisting the walls, said to be blessed by Durvan himself, would hold and that their supplies would last. The siege went on for a year and three days before Halcyon sent her armies to repel the Orcs, caring more about saving the innocent lives within than keeping the peace with long-ally Tharan.

The troops from Halcyon arrived just as the Orc armies managed to break through the southern gates of Tharan. The resulting battle lasted for mere hours, but much was lost during that time. Homes, stores, streets, entire sections of the city, countless lives – gone.

Out of fear that his people would revolt, the Tharanian King begged their pardon and swore allegiance to the Kingdom of Halcyon for all of the days of his line. Halcynian Knights were stationed in Tharan to help maintain order and Halcyon agreed to send food to Tharan until such a time when their ruined farmlands could again produce and sustain the population.

Tharan is no longer a bustling trade city, for Dimitri, and his father before him, have gambled away much of its farmlands, and none of the Kings since the Orc War have made an effort to repair the once-bustling port.

Tharan is, however, still known to bring in some of the finest seafood around and is a base for some of the best caravans and mercenary groups around, and, in its prime, was a main supplier of the world’s fruit from its bountiful (though sadly now destroyed) orchards.
