Creating Your Character


The Basics

Hello there, adventurer! I am going to assume that since you clicked the link to bring you to this page, you are interested in finding out more about our character creation process. Creating the actual character on the game is fairly easy - you go through the menus and select the physical attributes you want and then get down to the nitty gritty of picking stats and class. There is no approval process to begin playing, you simply log in and begin. That said, however, before you reach level 5 you have to have your name and description approved. Oooh, stop yer whining! Eternal Visions is a Roleplay-ENFORCED MUD. This means that a physical description of your character and a detailed background (though not overly detailed, calm down) is required to fully experience the game in all its RolePlay glory. It's for the best, I assure you.

The Name

I do love names. They're so...namelike. On EV we expect a certain amount of creativity. We don't like plain "boring" names like Mary Sue (though if your real name is Mary Sue, we totally love it!) or Bob. There will be no popular or famous fantasy names allowed: Frodo, Bilbo, Tinkerbell, Drizzt, Fizban, Gandalf, etc. Create something unique, or use one of the many name generators that are out there. We google each name before we approve it, so save yourself some heartache and google your name before you ask us to validate you - if it has a lot of hits, we'll giggle and say nooooo, try again!

The Description

Your description is probably THE most important part of all of this. It is, after all, what everyone "sees" of your character. Descriptions are 100% required, and we love a good detailed paragraph of information in there. Describe the shape of your character eyes and the particular shade of whatever color you've chosen. Is the character's black hair shot through with streaks of silver? Is it curly? Straight? Long? Short? Does he or she wear it in braids or is it cut into a mohawk? Use your imagination and create a unique looking individual. Or an average Joe. So long as it's descriptive, we'll love it.

Keep in mind that things in your description may only be stuff that is 100% true 100% of the time. You cannot include clothing in your description, or poses of any sort (Sitting, Standing, Waving, Looking, etc). Also, avoid use of the word "you" and please, no forcive emotions or feelings.

The Background

This should be easy enough for anyone, if they've read the creation story and have taken a peek at the map and other city information. Some things to ask yourself that might help with creation of a detailed character background are: How old is your character? Where was your character born? Is he or she an orphan? If not, who are your parents? Are you of mixed heritage? What motivates your character? What is/are your character's life goal/goals? Does your charachter have a wife or a husband? Children? Pets? Is he or she a farmer? Crafter? Thinker? Doer? Tell us all about it! Keep in mind that while we usually do not set characters up with NPC family members or houses with storage flags, if the background is well written enough and you are a veteran player, we may well consider offering some reward for effort.

Above all, the staff at Eternal Visions wants you to have FUN. If you don't like your character, you won't like the game.
